The New Babylon: Privacy Notice
Effective: September 30, 2026
This notice explains what information The New Babylon holds about you, where it lives, and what happens to it. It describes how the community runs today; if that changes, we'll update this notice before or at the same time as the change, never after.
Who's responsible
Sebastien Poulet runs The New Babylon ("we," "us") and is responsible for the information we collect and how we use it. Questions and requests go to support@thenewbabylon.net.
The community is hosted on Skool, operated by SKOOL.COM, INC. (111 Main St., El Segundo, CA 90245, United States). Skool processes community information on our behalf, and it's separately responsible for the information it collects to run its own platform, such as your Skool account, sign-in, device, and usage data. The short version
We collect only what the community needs to run. We don't sell your information, share it for advertising, or put it on a mailing list. We don't ask for your date of birth, ID, or payment details, and there's no payment in the free community. We haven't added any tracking pixels or outside analytics to the community.
What we collect
- What Skool shows group admins about you. This can include your name, email address, profile, the date you joined, your activity in the group, and your course progress.
- Your answers to the joining questions: that you're 18 or older, that you accept the Terms, Rules, and this notice, and, if you choose, what brought you here.
- What you post: posts, comments, check-in replies, and anything you attach. Other members can read these.
- Messages you send Sebastien, on Skool or by email.
- Moderation and safety records: a short note when a rule is broken or a safety concern comes up, so we can apply the rules fairly and follow up properly.
- Feedback you choose to give, such as a short form, a written or voice-note check-in, or an interview. All of it is optional. Nothing is recorded or transcribed without your explicit permission.
What we don't collect: your date of birth, government ID, payment details, or phone number (unless you choose to give it). We never ask for health or medical information. If you choose to mention it in a post, remember that other members can read it.
How we use it
- To run the community: give you access, show your posts, and keep the courses working.
- To keep it safe: enforce the rules, handle reports, and respond to safety concerns.
- To answer you when you write to us, and to handle your privacy requests.
- To improve the community, mostly by looking at overall patterns rather than individuals.
- To meet legal obligations.
How we use AI
We use AI tools, currently Anthropic's Claude, in two ways:
- Creating community material such as posts, lessons, and prompts, from Sebastien's own courses, notes, and experience. Sebastien reviews what goes out.
- Helping run the community: moderation support, sorting support requests, administration, and spotting general trends. For this we use only the minimum information needed, and where we can, we remove names and details. Sebastien reviews anything sensitive about an individual member himself.
Two limits always apply:
- A specific thing you've shared is never turned into content, a lesson, a case study, research, product input, or marketing without your separate, explicit permission for that use.
- Your conversations are never used to train an AI model, including any future New Babylon AI companion, unless you explicitly opt in.
Who else sees your information
- Other members see your profile and what you post.
- Skool hosts it, under its own policy and its role for us.
- Our service providers process only what they need to do their job for us: our email provider, the AI tools above, and any form tool we use for optional feedback.
- Nobody buys it. We don't sell or rent personal information, or share it for anyone's advertising.
Messages between members are stored by Skool. We don't read direct messages between other members; if someone reports a message to us, we look only at what they choose to share with us.
We'd disclose information only if the law requires it, or where it's genuinely needed to protect someone from serious harm. That doesn't mean we monitor the community or can send help; see the crisis section of the Terms. If The New Babylon is ever transferred to someone else, we intend to tell members before their information changes hands, wherever that's within our control.
You'll get only the emails membership requires: account, access, safety, and policy notices, plus whatever notifications you choose in your Skool settings. We won't send you marketing or promotional email unless you separately opt in, and saying no never affects your membership.
Where it's stored
With Skool, a U.S. company. Emails you send us sit with our email provider. Moderation notes and any feedback you give are kept in a private Google Drive folder in The New Babylon's Google Workspace, which only Sebastien, and the tools he uses to run the community, can access. If you're outside the United States, joining means your information is handled in the United States, where privacy rules may differ from yours.
How long we keep it
- Your account and posts: while you're a member. When you leave or delete something, it comes out of the community, though Skool may keep backup copies for a time it controls, and other members may already have read it.
- Recordings and raw transcripts of feedback interviews, only if you agreed to them: deleted within 30 days after the notes from them are checked.
- Feedback notes: kept until you ask us to delete them.
- Moderation records: kept for up to 3 years after they're made, so the rules can be applied fairly and repeated harm can be recognized. Because they protect other members, we don't delete them on request during that time.
- Emails: kept as ordinary correspondence.
Keeping it safe
We use reasonable safeguards for anything we hold outside Skool, such as limiting access to Sebastien and the tools he uses, and keeping it in accounts protected by strong passwords and two-step sign-in. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your information, we'll tell you as the law requires.
Your choices and rights
Email support@thenewbabylon.net to:
- ask what we hold about you, or get a copy;
- correct something that's wrong;
- delete your information or close your membership (moderation records are the one exception; they're kept for the period above even if you ask);
- withdraw a permission you gave earlier, like recording or a specific use of your story.
A person handles these requests, and we'll act as soon as we reasonably can and tell you when it's done. Depending on where you live, including the EU, the UK, and some U.S. states, you may have further rights under local law, including the right to complain to a data protection authority. Where laws like these apply, we rely on our agreement with you to run your membership, on our legitimate interest in keeping the community safe and improving it, on your consent for optional things like feedback, recordings, and marketing, and on legal obligations where they apply. Under 18
The New Babylon is for adults only. If you believe someone under 18 has joined, email support@thenewbabylon.net and we'll remove the account and what we hold about it.
Changes
If this notice changes in a meaningful way, we'll announce it in the community and update the date at the top. Where a change affects how your information is used, we'll ask for your agreement again.
